Stalemate at St Andrew’s?

The Championship gets up and running on Friday when Birmingham welcome Ipswich to St Andrew’s. The pair were separated by two leagues last term, but the opening game of this Championship season could go either way.

Birmingham stormed EFL League One last term, racking up a record 111 points to win the title at a canter. Chris Davies’ boys are now looking to make an impression in England’s second tier.

Ipswich suffered an instant relegation from the Premier League after a tough year in the top flight. Kieran McKenna’s men picked up just four wins and finished second from bottom.

This is a tricky fixture to call, and the opening game of the Championship season could end all square. We like the look of the draw and under 2.5 goals at 3.90.

Lampard’s Sky Blues to Start with Comfortable Home Win

On Saturday afternoon, Coventry and Hull meet at the Coventry Building Society Arena. Under Frank Lampard, the Sky Blues could push for promotion this season.

Coventry were beaten in the play-off semi-finals last term, but Lampard did a terrific job in the West Midlands. They would love to miss the play-offs altogether and finish in the top two this time around.

Hull had a disappointing 2024-25 campaign, avoiding relegation by the skin of their teeth. Unfortunately, it could be another tough season for the Tigers.

Coventry should get off to a winning start on Saturday, and we can see Lampard’s troops winning by a margin on home soil. Back the hosts to win -1 at 2.30.

Saints to See Off Dragons

Southampton and Wrexham meet in one of the standout fixtures of the opening round. The Saints were rubbing shoulders with the Premier League’s elite last term, while the Dragons were runners-up in League One.

Southampton had a forgettable season in the top tier, collecting a measly 12 points from 38 games. They won just twice and conceded a staggering 86 goals.

Wrexham were promoted from League One, finishing second on 92 points. The Welsh side have been on a meteoric rise since the Hollywood owners arrived, but how will they fare in England’s second division?

Southampton have not won many games on home soil over the past year or so, but we are backing Will Still to get off to a winning start at St Mary’s. Check out 2.60 for the home team to be winning at half time and full time.
