Naturally, the three relegated clubs from the EFL Championship are the favourites for the title. Luton Town are priced at 5.00, while Cardiff City are available at 8.00. Plymouth Argyle, who finished 23rd last term, are 9.00.
Luton have had a miserable couple of years since winning promotion to the Premier League, suffering back-to-back relegations. Still, the Hatters have one of the strongest squads on paper in the third tier.
Cardiff’s two-decade stay in the top two tiers of the English game has come to an end. Things have not been great in the Welsh capital for the last few years, and the Bluebirds finally succumbed to relegation last term.
Cardiff are one of the most unpredictable teams in League One this year. They have a talented team, but the Welsh club were woeful last season, picking up just 44 points. Can new boss Brian Barry-Murphy hit the ground running in Wales?
Plymouth are back in the third tier after a two-year stint in the Championship. The Pilgrims dominated the division when they were last in League One, collecting over 100 points. Argyle will surely be in the promotion picture this season.
Apart from the three relegated clubs, Huddersfield Town have been tipped for success. They were a top-tier team not so long ago, but the Terriers have been on a downward spiral of late. They finished tenth last term, but you can get 9.00 for Plymouth to finish top in 2025-26.
Bolton Wanderers are next on the list at 12.00, while Blackpool are priced at 14.00. Both clubs could be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.
Stockport County, priced at 14.00, could be the dark horse in the division. They finished third behind Birmingham City and Wrexham but missed out on promotion in the play-offs. Dave Challinor is doing a great job at Edgeley Park, and County could be the ones to watch.
Can the Bluebirds Soar Back to the Championship?
Cardiff had one of their best transfer windows last summer, bringing in the likes of Chris Willock, Calum Chambers, and Anwar El Ghazi. However, despite looking good on paper, the club won just nine of 46 league games and finished bottom of the Championship table.
Apart from a few notable departures, most of Cardiff’s talented players are still in South Wales. In Yousef Salech, who arrived in January, the Bluebirds could have the best striker in the league, and new manager Barry-Murphy is highly thought of in the English game.
Cardiff have some winnable fixtures from the off, and they could be the team to beat if they can get off to a flying start. City are our pick for the title (8.00).
As for our outsider tip, there is great value in 14.00 for Blackpool. With the experienced Bruce at the helm, the Tangerines are all set for a solid season. The top six is the priority, but Blackpool could put themselves in the title mix.
