The Tournament Contenders

Scottie Scheffler and McIlroy are set to rekindle their rivalry in the third major of the 2025 season. The Northern Ireland ace won this year’s Masters, while the world No. 1 prevailed at the PGA Championship.

Naturally, the top two in the world head to County Antrim as the favourites. Scheffler is just ahead at 5.50, with McIlroy available at 6.00.

McIlroy won the 2014 Open Championship, beating Rickie Fowler and Sergio Garcia by 2 strokes. Can “Wee-Mac” repeat the feat 11 years on? Being the home favourite, many will be backing McIlroy this weekend.

Scheffler has won just about everything else, but an Open Championship title has eluded the New Jersey-born star. Can Scheffler get his hands on the trophy at Royal Portrush Golf Club?

He is in good form, winning the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, the PGA Championship, and the Memorial Tournament and sealing a hatful of top-ten finishes. Scheffler is no doubt the man to beat in this year’s Open Championship.

Xander Schauffele won last year’s 152nd Open at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland. The Californian scored 275 and finished 2 strokes ahead of Billy Horschel and Justin Rose.

Schauffele has not won since last year’s Open, but his last two PGA Tour victories have been majors. He is always one to watch, and the 31-year-old is available at 15.00 to retain his Open crown.

Jon Rahm has won 11 PGA Tour competitions, though his last was the 2023 Masters. The Spaniard heads to Northern Ireland as the third favourite behind Scheffler and McIlroy at 13.00.

You can get 15.00 for Bryson DeChambeau to come out on top, while Ludvig Aberg is available at 17.00. Colin Morikawa, the 2021 Open winner, is nicely priced at 23.00.

Can Scheffler Secure His First Open Championship Title?

Many eyes will be on home hero McIlroy this weekend. The 36-year-old from County Down would love to win the Open on his own patch, but edging out Scheffler will be no easy task.

It could go to the wire between the world’s top two golfers, but we fancy Scheffler to secure his first Open Championship victory. Our money is going on the 2025 PGA Championship winner to prevail at 5.50.

Scheffler will be looking to make a fast start in County Antrim. The world No. 1 is the favourite at 13.00 to be in the lead after the first round, which is worth having a punt on.
