The PGA Tour returns after a few weeks off, with the Sanderson Farms Championship taking centre stage. The Country Club of Jackson will once again host this Mississippi event.

The first edition was won by Mac McLendon in 1968. The tournament was originally known as the Magnolia Classic and has had several name changes over the years.

The last three Sanderson Farms Championships have been settled via a playoff. Last year, Kevin Yu edged past Beau Hossler to win his maiden PGA Tour event.

Only three men have won this tournament on more than one occasion. Dwight Nevil became the first multiple winner in the 1970s, with Brian Henninger and Fred Funk following suit in 1999 and 2004, respectively.

As for this weekend’s tournament, Akshay Bhatia is the slight favourite with the bookies. The 23-year-old from California has won twice on the PGA Tour and could be the man to beat at 19.00.

The pre-tournament betting market is wide open, with Yu, Davis Thompson, and Min Woo Lee priced at 21.00. All three players are certainly capable of going far.

Elsewhere, Michael Thorbjornsen and Rasmus Holjgaard are available at 23.00, while you can get 26.00 for Emiliano Grillo and JT Poston to prevail.

Yu was excellent in the 2024 Sanderson Farms Championship to win his first PGA Tour event. The Taiwanese ace held his nerve in a playoff against Hossler to finish on -23.

Yu would love to back that up with another victory in Jackson, and the 27-year-old is our pick to prevail. Have a punt on Yu to retain at the solid price of 21.00.

With the top players in the field so hard to split on paper, the battle for a top-five place should be thrilling. Thompson, who won the 2024 John Deere Classic, could be one to watch in Jackson.
