The Tournament Contenders

The first event was held in the 1940s, with the great Byron Nelson winning the inaugural Houston Open. Several huge names have won this tournament, including Arnold Palmer, Vijay Singh, and Phil Mickelson.

German star Stephan Jager won the 2024 edition, beating five players to the line by a single stroke. One of those was Tony Finau, who heads into this year’s competition as one of the favourites.

Finau, priced at 29.00, is looking for his first PGA Tour victory since winning the Mexico Open in 2023. On his day, the Utah-born ace can win any tournament, and Finau has had plenty of recent success in Texas.

Scottie Scheffler finished tied second last year, and the world No. 1 heads to Texas as the favourite. Scheffler has been tipped for plenty of success this year, but he is still looking for his first tournament victory in 2025.

Scheffler is the favourite at 5.00, with in-form Rory McIlroy next on the list at 7.00. The pair are well clear of Finau and Aaron Rai, who are available at 29.00. Elsewhere in the betting, Davis Thompson and Min Woo Lee are priced at 31.00, and you can get Jason Day at 34.00.

Can Rory Beat Scottie in Texas?

Scheffler and McIlroy are expected to battle for first place in this year’s Texas Open. Not much splits these two in the betting, but we are backing the Northern Irishman to edge out the American.

McIlroy has made a solid start to 2025, winning The Players Championship in Florida two weeks ago. He also won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February. Back the Brit to come out on top here at 7.00.
