Du Plessis and Chimaev are set to battle in a fascinating UFC Middleweight Championship fight in Chicago. The bout between the current champion and the undefeated contender could go either way.

De Plessis heads to the Windy City with the belt over his shoulder, but many have tipped Chimaev to win the UFC Middleweight Championship on Saturday night.

Du Plessis beat Sean Strickland in January 2024 to win the belt. The South African is on an impressive 11-fight winning streak, with his last defeat coming against Roberto Soldic in London in October 2018.

The 31-year-old may be the slight underdog, but he will not give up his belt without a serious fight.

Chimaev is one of UFC’s hottest fighters, and the Russian is fancied to win the belt this weekend. Khamzat’s freestyle wrestling flair could be too hot for the champion to handle in Chicago.

Chimaev’s mixed martial arts record in exemplary, winning 14 out of 14, with six knockouts. His last victory came against Robert Whittaker at UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi last October.

Apart from the main event, several other top bouts are taking place at the United Center. Lerone Murphy and Aaron Pico clash in a Featherweight fight, while Geoff Neal takes on Carlos Prates in the Welterweight division.

Also, Jared Cannonier and Michael Page lock horns, and Tim Elliott battles Kai Asakura. The preliminary card is also tasty, with King Green and Carlos Diego Ferreira meeting, and Jessica Andrade and Loopy Godinez locking horns.

New UFC Middleweight Champion?

All eyes will be on the Du Plessis-Chimaev bout on Saturday night. The pair will no doubt put on a show for the watching public, but who will leave with the championship belt?

Du Plessis is priced at 2.70 to retain, while Chimaev is available at 1.42 to snatch the title away from the South African.

Chimaev has been on a path of destruction since arriving in the UFC, and we can see the unbeaten contender getting the victory in Illinois. Chimaev to win by submission is worth having a punt on at 2.60.

In terms of the other fights, the Welterweight bout between Neal and Prates should be a cracker. The pair were scheduled to meet at UFC 314 in April, but Neal withdrew due to injury.

The eagerly anticipated battle is not easy to predict, even though Prates is the clear favourite. It could go the distance (2.39), but the Brazilian should have enough in the locker to edge past the 34-year-old American. Back Prates to come out on top at 1.35.
