The Tournament Contenders

As we approach the business end of the 2025 season, things are starting to heat up on the PGA Tour. This week’s BMW Championship will be the second FedEx Cup playoff event.

Scheffler heads to Maryland as the clear bookies’ favourite, priced at 3.40 to win the crown. After finishing tied third at TPC Southwind last time out, the world No. 1 is looking to get back to winning ways.

Scheffler made a slow start to the season but burst into life with May’s CJ Cup Byron Nelson win. The New Jersey man then picked up victories at the PGA Championship, Memorial Tournament, and the Open Championship.

Rory McIlroy has been a big rival to Scheffler in recent times, and the world No. 2 makes his way to Owings Mills as the second favourite. The Northern Ireland ace is currently priced at 7.40.

McIlroy is enjoying a fine 2025 season, winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the Players Championship, and the Masters Tournament. However, his success in Georgia in April remains his last competition victory.

Xander Schauffele went into last week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship as one of the favourites, but he had a disappointing tournament in Tennessee. The 31-year-old is looking to bounce back this weekend.

Schauffele has not won a PGA event since the 2024 Open Championship and is certainly due a tournament victory. He is the third favourite behind the two big hitters at 18.00.

Patrick Cantlay and Tommy Fleetwood are both available at 20.00, while you can get 22.00 for Ludvig Aberg and Justin Thomas.

Fresh from his stunning victory in Memphis, English star Justin Rose is an eye-catching outsider at 40.00. Rose’s St. Jude success was his first PGA Tour event win since February 2023.

Can Bradley Secure Third BMW Crown?

All eyes will be on Scheffler and McIlroy in this playoff event, but could we see an outsider come out on top in Baltimore County?

The tempting price of 40.00 for Keegan Bradley to prevail stands out. The Vermont-born player won this competition last year, beating Aberg, Sam Burns, and Adam Scott by a stroke.

Bradley also won this tournament in 2018, seeing off Rose in a playoff. He is looking to become the first man since Tiger Woods to win three BMW Championships. Our money is going on the 2025 Travelers Championship winner.

If you fancy backing someone at even longer odds, Kurt Kitayama at 60.00 could be worth a punt. Kitayama recently won his second PGA Tour event, coming out on top at the 3M Open in Minnesota last month. Could the Californian top the lot at Caves Valley?
