The Tournament Contenders

The battle for this year’s World Matchplay title will be fascinating. English duo Luke Littler and Luke Humphries are set to rekindle their rivalry in Blackpool

Littler heads to Winter Gardens as the favourite. The 18-year-old has been in the limelight since bursting onto the scene as a teenager and has certainly lived up to the billing so far. Littler is available at 2.70 to win his first World Matchplay.

The 2025 PDC World Darts Championship winner kicks off his tournament with a first-round matchup against fellow Englishman Ryan Searle. Littler is looking to get off to a flying start.

Humphries could be Littler’s main championship rival in Blackpool. “Cool Hand Luke” won this competition in 2024, beating Michael van Gerwen in a thrilling final.

The 2024 world champion won the Masters in February and is definitely one to watch in Blackpool. Right now, Humphries is available at the tempting price of 4.50 to retain his World Matchplay crown.

Welshman Gerwyn Price is the third favourite at 8.00. Price is looking to become the first player from Wales to win the Matchplay.

Elsewhere in the betting, Josh Rock is available at 13.00, while Gary Anderson and Van Gerwen are priced at 17.00. Anderson won in 2018, becoming the first Scottish player to do so.

Van Gerwen is a three-time World Matchplay champion, with his last triumph coming in 2022. “Mighty Mike” is always worth keeping an eye on and could be the dark horse this year.

Littler to Top the Lot in Blackpool?

Many are predicting Littler to win the World Matchplay for the first time. “The Nuke” has been on a meteoric rise since arriving in the PDC in 2023, and the Warrington-born youngster is the man to beat.

Littler will face fierce competition at Winter Gardens, but our money is going on the world champion. Littler is priced at 2.70 to lift the trophy in Blackpool.

As for an outsider, it could be worth backing Jonny Clayton at 33.00. The 50-year-old Welshman is a former Premier League and Masters winner and was World Matchplay runner-up in 2023.

Clayton takes on Martin Schindler in his opener. If he can beat the German in round one, the Welsh veteran will fancy his chances of going far this year.
